Fully Funded Mitacs Global Link Research Internship 2025

The Mitacs Research Internship is a highly competitive program designed for international undergraduate students from selected countries and regions. The internship offers an opportunity for students to engage in a 12-week research experience under the guidance of Canadian university faculty members. This program covers a wide range of academic disciplines, including science, engineering, mathematics, humanities, and social sciences.

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship provides comprehensive financial support to help cover the costs associated with your stay in Canada. Here’s what the award includes:

  • Airfare Contribution: Funding to help cover the cost of a round-trip flight to Canada (amount varies depending on your country of origin).
  • Transportation: Funding to assist with transportation from the airport in Canada to your accommodation.
  • Housing Stipend: Financial support for housing during your stay (amount varies depending on your country of origin).
  • Enrollment Fees: A stipend to cover student enrollment fees (amount varies depending on the host institution).
  • Living Expenses: A stipend for food and incidentals (amount varies depending on your country of origin).
  • Health Insurance: Emergency health insurance coverage for the entire duration of your internship.
  • Campus Support: Access to student mentors on campus in Canada.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities to attend industry events and professional development courses.

To be eligible for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship in 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Enrollment Status: Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at an eligible institution. Click here for the list of Eligible Institution.
  • Academic Standing: Must have one to three semesters remaining in their program as of fall 2025, with specific requirements varying by country.
  • Grade Requirements: Must meet the GPA requirements set for their country of study. These can be checked with each international partner’s guidelines.
  • Project Selection: Must apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects, ensuring selections are from at least three different Canadian provinces.
  • Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in the language of the project, whether English, French, or both.
  • Availability: Must be available for a 12-week internship between May 1 and October 31, with the start date falling between May 1 and July 31. Internships starting before or after these dates are not permitted.
  • Previous Participation: Must not have been awarded a Globalink Research Internship in the past.
  • Applicants who are affiliated with, or receiving funding/support from, institutions listed under the Named Research Organizations (NROs) are ineligible for projects involving research in Sensitive Technology Research Areas (STRA). Mitacs reserves the right to screen and decline funding for projects associated with these sensitive areas.

Mitacs recommends that you begin preparing the following items before the application call opens:

  1. Review Eligibility Criteria: Familiarize yourself with the general Globalink Research Internship (GRI) requirements, as well as any specific eligibility criteria for your country and associated international partner organizations.
  2. Passport Validity: Ensure your passport, issued by your home country, is valid until at least January 2026. If you don’t have a valid passport yet, you can still submit an application, but you will need to provide valid passport information if your application is approved.
  3. Reference Letter: Obtain a reference letter from a professor. Follow the instructions provided in the downloadable Globalink Research Internship Information zip file, as all reference letters must adhere to these guidelines.
  4. Update Your CV: You can submit your own CV or use the CV template provided in the Globalink Research Internship Information zip file.
  5. Academic Transcripts: Secure your academic transcripts in English or French. If your institution cannot provide transcripts in these languages, you are responsible for getting them translated and notarized.
  6. Language Proficiency Tests: Depending on your country, you may need to provide results from an English or French language-proficiency test. Check the specific requirements for your country.
