Academia Sinica (Taiwan International Internship Program)

Taiwan International Internship Program Benefits

TIIP interns are entitled to the following:

  • A scholarship of 1,000 USD monthly (before tax).
  • An on-campus Accomodation (UDS/140 month paid by intern).
  • One way airfare (up to 500 USD).
  • Free Counseling service.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible for the TIIP program:

  1. Undergraduate students in their final year.
  2. Master’s students.
  3. Individuals holding a B.S. or Master’s degree.

Not eligible for the TIIP program:

  1. Students pursuing a Ph.D. degree. program
  2. Students/individuals who have attended the TIIP program before.
  3. Current employees or research assistants at Academia Sinica.

Application Instructions

Application Procedure:

  • Apply online between January 1 and February 28, 2024 (Taiwan time).
  • Provide a passport number.
  • Submit at least two weeks before the deadline to account for technical issues.

Required Documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Two letters of recommendation submitted by referees to the IIP website.
  • Upload the original or notarized academic transcript.

Selecting a Mentor:

  • List three unique Principal Investigators (PIs) from provided programs.
  • Ensure selected PIs differ from referees.
  • Contact mentors on the application form for permission.

Results Announcement:

  • Successful candidates and mentors posted on TIGP website by early April 2024.
  • Admitted interns notified via email with a letter of acceptance for visa processing.

Important Notes:

  • Admitted interns must arrive in Taiwan within 10 days of the batch start date.
  • The TIGP office does not provide pick-up services to Academia Sinica or the university. Only transportation information is provided, so ensure you can travel independently.
  • The TIGP office cannot return any documents sent by mail. Please refrain from mailing any documents to the TIGP office.
  • Submission of more than one application will result in disqualification.
  • The TIGP office reserves the right to eliminate disqualified applicants during the preliminary screening.
  • Foreign students in Taiwan admitted to the program will not receive airfare reimbursement.

Professional Training

Selected interns will receive professional training like:

  • Assignment to various research groups.
  • Opportunity to work closely with your supervisor.
  • Hands-on training for solving scientific problems.
  • Oral and Poster presentations.

Internship Timeline

This internship program will for 8 months (January – August).

January 1st – February 28th

May 1st – June 30th:

  • 1st Cohort.

June 1st  – July 31st:

  • 2nd Cohort.

July 1st – August 31st:

  • 3rd Cohort.

Transition:

  • Orientation.
  • Chinese classes.
  • Mental support.

Lab Work:

  • Hands-on training.
  • Working with lab partners.
  • Oral and Poster presentations.
